Satin Jackets Guestmix

It’s been a while since our last guestmix, and what better way to keep it lit then with an exclusive mix from an artist that’s a housemate of the label and a friend, Satin Jackets. The last year has been a big one for this German based outfit (no pun intended) with releases currently sitting high on Beatport charts, productions in great demand, a worldwide following and the kicking off of the first series of live shows all over the place. Judging by the outfits work ethos this is only going to be the tip of the iceberg.

Satin Jackets trademark sound is slow, sultry and brimming with optimism and todays mix reinforces this aesthetic. With a BPM that’s in no hurry this mix is full of summer heat. With plenty of hooky vocals and a non pretentious approach to track selection this typifies Satin Jackets ethos of music to make you smile. We caught up with Tim and Den to ask them a few questions, some pertinent and some pointless.

INTERVIEW:

Hi guys, let’s break the ice, whats your favourite joke?

Tim: We are germans.

You have quite a definitive sound that people associate with you, are there any downsides to this?

Tim: Creating an individual trademark sound is like finding a secret formula. It’s not about following trends or trying to make everybody like my music. Of course it is great when somebody does but in the end it is about doing what you feel.

You spend a huge amount of time in the studio, what do you do to relax and get away?

Tim: Go hide in the woods.
Den: Being on tour and travelling to different countries is the highest reward.

You love the glory days of house, what are your top 3 classic house tracks?

Tim: Mood II Swing – All Night Long // Round Two feat. Andy Caine – New Day // Seventh Movement – Luvtraxxx

Den: Pepe Bradock – Deep Burnt // Seven Grand Housing Authority – Love’s Got Me High // Basic Channel – Phylyps track

You have just started the ‘Satin Jackets Live tour’, which are the outfits first ever public shows, why now?

Den: Yeah – it was finally time to bring Satin Jackets on stage. We had a lot of requests and worked the past months on a special live-show. After the first gigs in Mexico, UK, Russia and Georgia, we can say it is was well worth the effort.

What’s been your favourite show to date?

Den: The very first show in Mexico City’s Hookah Lounge was the most exiting one.
Tim: I guess you will always remember your first time.

You decided to wear a costume and mask while playing live, why?

Den: These days, everybody is a DJ. We want to turn the page and move towards a more performance oriented show.

What’s on your wish list for the next 6 months?

Tim: Put out some fresh music on my label Glam Jam Artists. I’m in the process of doing the first vinyl release.
Den: Spreading the Satin Jackets vibe all across the world.

Have you ever written a track for someone special?

Tim: All the time

What is the last thing that surprised you?

Tim: Tom Moulton emailing me asking to remix “Only You”
Den: The sun just came out in Germany.

Who would you most like to remix?

Tim: Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
